Georgia GOAL Scholarship

You can help change the lives of students through the Georgia Education Tax Credit opportunity. By redirecting a portion of your state tax dollars through a contribution to Georgia GOAL, you are earmarking those tax dollars toward educational scholarships to Mount Paran Christian School.

What is it?

In 2008, the Georgia General Assembly passed House Bill 1133. This new law allows you, a Georgia taxpayer, to redirect a portion of your Georgia income tax liability to provide scholarship assistance to incoming MPCS students! To enable our supporters to take advantage of this program, we are working with the Georgia GOAL Scholarship Program, a state-approved student scholarship organization.

Who Can "Take the Credit?"

If you owe Georgia taxes, you can receive a tax credit (more than a mere income tax deduction!) toward your Georgia income tax liability for amounts contributed to GOAL. For married couples filing a joint return, the maximum tax credit-eligible contribution is $2,500 ($1,000 as an individual). For owners of pass-through entities (S-corp, LLC, and Partnerships), the maximum tax credit-eligible contribution is up to $10,000. C-corps and some trusts can contribute up to 75% of total tax liability. The best part is that it does not affect your budget in any way since these are state tax dollars you were going to pay anyway! So go ahead and take the credit that will change the life of a potential MPCS family forever!

“I am very thankful and grateful for the GOAL scholarship program. Without GOAL, I would not have been able to attend this amazing school, MPCS, which has offered me so much. Here I am getting all these opportunities that I didn’t think would be possible. Now, instead of being satisfied with mediocrity, I am reaching for things that I never thought would be in my range.”

How Does This Work?

With GOAL’s online paperless process, the donor now has two easy options for submitting forms. We highly recommend that interested participant(s) submit an application in 2014 to reserve your spot for a 2015 tax credit! GOAL will begin accepting applications as early as 8/1/14.

Two Options exist to apply for your 2015 Education Tax Credit:

1. A quick and simple option is to complete the GOAL Paperless Process by clicking this link: GOAL Paperless Processing

2. Complete the 2015 GOAL Tax Credit Form and e-mail to You can also fax to 770.977.9284 Attention: Cindy Gibbs, Development Office

NOTE: Beginning January 1, 2015, GOAL will submit tax credit applications to the Department of Revenue (DOR) in the order received in their office. It takes approximately 30 days for the donor to receive approval back from the DOR. The donor has an additional 60 days from this approval date to submit their contribution. Contributions made by check are payable to: Georgia GOAL Scholarship Program, Inc. (designate "Mount Paran Christian School" in the memo line of the check).

When you complete your 2015 tax filing, you receive a credit against your Georgia income taxes for the amount of your contribution, and you receive a charitable tax deduction on your federal taxes. You may still file your taxes electronically if you elect to take this credit.

Do You Own or Run a Business?

S-corps, LLCs and Partnerships are eligible to receive a tax credit amount up to $10,000.

Corporations can receive a tax credit for amounts contributed to the GOAL Scholarship Program up to 75 percent of their Georgia income tax liability.

How Are the Funds Used?

The GOAL Scholarship Program uses the MPCS designated contributions to fund K-12 scholarships for public school children who desire to attend MPCS. The scholarships are also available for qualified students who are eligible to enter kindergarten. Each year, MPCS uses its regular admission and financial aid process to determine those students who are eligible to receive GOAL scholarships and submits the scholarship candidates and amounts to GOAL for final approval.

Update from Georgia GOAL - 2015 Education Tax Credits

The Department of Revenue announced late Friday, January 2, that the $58 million cap on education expense credits for 2015 was met on New Year’s Day, due to overwhelming demand on the part of Georgia taxpayers.

As a result, the DOR will pro-rate the $58 million among all applications received on January 1st. This has always been DOR policy and process – to prorate the remaining tax credits on the last day of their availability. It just so happens that in 2015, the first day was also the last day!

GOAL will receive notification of donor approvals within 30 days, and will immediately notify all contributors of their approved tax credit amount.  At that time, GOAL will also provide detailed instructions to donors regarding contributions.

Important Note: During the upcoming session of the Georgia General Assembly, lawmakers will be considering whether to raise the annual cap on the amount of available education expense tax credits, which could include a cap increase effective for 2015. If this occurs, GOAL will notify contributors immediately and, if possible, re-apply on the donor’s behalf to the DOR for the remaining portion of the desired 2015 contribution to GOAL.
